Morvelisa: Critical Approaches to Media Products - Scarface Audience Analysis

What I have grasped from watching Scarface;

From watching Scarface, analysing the poster and watching a documentary about the importance Scarface has to many rappers in the music industry, I have come to the conclusion that the audience for this film would be predominately male, from the ages of 18-30, as the rating is 18+. This is due to the content and themes within this film such as the violence, drugs and scenes of a sexual nature. Throughout this film we are presented with many different scenes with all of these themes included within, which if a younger person was to watch, would be inappropriate due to the themes within it. Men would find Scarface more appealing than women as most of the references are based around the male stereotype and what men find interesting, such as women, money and violence. There are many stereotypes within this film - and the women within it are usually objectified as they are seen as the men's property. Young (predominately black) males would aspire to this lifestyle which Tony Montana has chosen, (for instance the rappers we saw in the Origins of Hip-Hop documentary), as they see Tony as someone who started from the bottom and got to where he wanted in life.

  1. Ellie, you are demonstrating some understanding of the concepts in relation to this film. However your analysis is not complete and needs to be covered in more detail with references to examples and correct terminology.
